Blend It Like Bieber: The Erewhon Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie Recipe

When I visited Los Angeles last year, I had two must-dos on my hit list. To attend the Natural Products Expo West conference and to drive with my bestie in our rented convertible bug to the fancy-schmancy grocery store, Erewhon. I just had to try the Hailey Bieber Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie. IMO, one of the downsides to living in Canada, aside from the cost of living, is that we don’t have an Erewhon. I wouldn’t rely on this boujee grocery chain for everything on my shopping list. But, I would treat myself to an U$18-dollar smoothie every now and then, which converts to 25 Canadian dollars, btw.

Celebrity make-up artist (and Canadian) Victoria Radford swears by this smoothie for great skin.

What is Erewhon?

If you’ve never heard of Erewhon, this high-end grocery store offers organic health foods, paleo-friendly snacks and ready-made macro meals for health trend. Plus, it’s one of the spots in Los Angeles you can spot celebrities – there are 10 locations, including Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. I suppose the closest thing we Canadians have to Erewhon is Whole Foods, Pusateri’s in Toronto or the newly launched L’OCA Quality Market in Edmonton.

What is the meaning of “that girl”?

Why the buzz around Erewhon smoothies?

Celebrities regularly partner with Erewhon to launch their own signature smoothies, including actresses and models Sofia Richie, Winnie Harlow and Bella Hadid. My bestie actually tried the coconut cloud smoothie by Summer Friday’s founder Mariana Hewitt (below). But Bieber’s strawberry glaze skin smoothie is the most popular, so I had to try it.

Making Hailey Bieber’s Erewhon smoothie at home

The hype around Bieber’s strawberry glaze skin smoothie rose during the drama with Selena Gomez last year. Erewhon recently added the drink to its permanent menu.

So, if you’re a Canadian, like me, and want to try this smoothie without taking an international flight, read on for the recipe below. Be warned though, some of the ingredients (ahem, the collagen powder, the liquid hyaluronic acid and the sea moss gel) are comparable in price to a luxury skincare product.

All in all, though, the Bieber Smoothie is a decadent and delicious beverage with a host of skin benefits thanks to all its antioxidant-rich, collagen-boosting ingredients. If I were drinking it daily, though, I’d make it without the strawberry glaze and coconut creme.

Hailey Bieber Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie Recipe

Here’s how to adapt the Biebs baby mama’s fave smoothie, plus a few hacks to save you some time.

Ingredients

  • 5 fresh strawberries, 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup coconut creme
  • 1/2 cup almond milk (divided)
  • 1/4 avocado, pitted, peeled and chopped into chunks
  • 1/2 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
  • 2 pitted medjool dates
  • 1 scoop collagen powder (I used Power Life brand’s collagen powder and added in one scoop of their strawberry vanilla protein powder for an extra kick)
  • 1 tbsp sea moss gel
  • 1 tbsp hyaluronic acid liquid
  • ½ cup ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Place 5 strawberries, lemon juice and maple syrup into a blender. Puree until smooth. Transfer your homemade strawberry glaze to a small bowl or jar. (Need to cut off some prep time? I used an organic strawberry jam instead, which seemed to do the trick.)
  2. Using a spoon or spatula, spread coconut cream inside a large glass in vertical stripes. (I didn’t measure the cream; I just scooped it from the can. I probably used 2 to 3 tablespoons.)
  3. Add strawberry glaze to the bottom of the cup. Set aside.
  4. Rinse the blender with water. (Or not! Up to you.) Add half the almond milk, a cup of frozen strawberries, avocado, banana, dates, collagen, sea moss gel, hyaluronic acid and ice. Blend until smooth, adding more almond milk as the smoothie thickens.
  5. Pour the strawberry smoothie directly from the blender onto the strawberry glazed glass. Stir with a spoon or knife to create decorative swirls, if desired. Enjoy immediately.
