It’s A Date: The Perfect Protein Shake For After Your Workout

This recipe is perfect for after your workout. Why? It has the protein your muscles need to repair those micro muscle tears, and the berry and date combo is a sweet reward for your sweat sesh. Follow this, and you will have two smoothies – cut the recipe in half for a single drink. We had this smoothie after a HIIT/yoga fusion class at Afterglow Studio in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood.

Thankfully, the studio owner Julie Watson allowed us to share the recipe.


  • 2 cups dairy alternative (your choice)
  • 1 ½ cups frozen strawberries (or any berry that you like)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 whole dates, pitted
  • ½ scoop protein (Try Niyama Clean Plant Protein Powder)


Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth and serve.
