The Best High-Protein Snacks in Canada

One of the biggest nutrition challenges I’ve faced (aside from trying to actually like burpees) is hitting my daily protein goal.

Carbs? Easy. Fats? No problem. But protein is like this elusive macro I’m constantly chasing. And clearly, I’m not alone – everyone seems to be in their protein era right now, turning everything from candy to coffee into a high-protein version.

When I was at the Natural Products Expo West in Los Angeles, I was absolutely flooded with all the products claiming to be high in protein, fibre, everything. Every aisle had foods promising to be the next miracle bite. But while some of those snacks may never make it north of the border, I made it my mission to find the best high-protein snacks you can actually get in Canada, and beyond the expo. No crazy shipping fees, no tariffs, no cross-border trips needed.

Let me also say this: protein is important–especially for recovery, muscle repair, and feeling full–but it’s not everything. Balance is still the goal. That said, if you’re looking for smart snacks that help get your protein up without tasting like cardboard, here’s what’s worth trying.

The best protein snacks in Oh Canada!

TruBar Plant-Based Protein bars (12-pack), $42, at amazon.ca

Tru Bars

I found these protein gems at the Healthy Planet store, while scanning the aisles for something protein-packed that didn’t taste like punishment. These are plant-based, sweet (but not too saccharine), and actually taste like a treat. I enjoy them post-dinner or whenever I want to trick myself into thinking I’m eating dessert. Each bar contains 12 grams of plant-based protein (brown rice, pea and other veggie sources).

RXBAR Protein Bars (12-pack), $26, at rxbar.ca

RX Bars

RXBARs are the “clean girl” protein bar. Just egg whites, dates, nuts – basically a grocery list pressed into bar form. No additives. No ingredients you can’t pronounce in the ingredient list. They’re dense and chewy and keep you full, and didn’t make my stomach hate me later. When I’m feeling extra indulgent, I will put peanut butter on top. One bar offers TK grams of protein.

Goodles Cheddy Mac (12-pack), $40, at goodles.com

Goodles

I discovered Goodles at Expo West and immediately got the hype. It’s like your childhood mac and cheese grew up, got a degree and started lifting weights. While this isn’t your traditional “snack,” it can be a high-protein side or mini-meal. Plus, apparently, Canadians reportedly eat more mac and cheese than anyone else in the world, so it tracks. Initially, when I discovered this brand, they were only available in the States, but they’ve started shipping to Canada. Ever since, I’ve been stocking my pantry. Each portion has TK grams of protein.

Protein meal planning that’s not boring.

Meal prep for high protein dishes that actually taste good.

Spring Creek Pickled Quail Eggs

I discovered this brand at the Restaurants Canada Show in Toronto. I instantly became obsessed, especially with the jalapeño flavour. This is a grab-and-go protein snack that’s way more fun (and can I say fancier?) than your typical hard-boiled egg. Add them to a snack plate, and eat them straight from the jar. Plus, they pack about six grams of protein per three eggs and require zero prep.
